Affiliate Disclosure
How this site pays for itself — and why it never changes the advice.
Straight answer: Mr. Playas is reader-supported. Some of the links on this site — to tours, car rentals, hotels, and activities — are affiliate links. If you click one and book something, we may earn a small commission. It costs you nothing extra. The price you pay is exactly the same as if you'd gone to the company directly.
What an affiliate link actually is
When you click an affiliate link and make a booking, the company knows the referral came from us and pays a small percentage. That's it. We never see your card details, your booking, or your personal information — the transaction happens entirely on the partner's site, under their terms.
The programs we're part of
We earn commissions through the following partners and networks. When you book through a link on this site, your purchase may be attributed to one of them:
- Viator (a Tripadvisor company) — tours and activities
- DiscoverCars — car rentals
- Trip.com — hotels and stays
- Fever — events and nightlife
- Xcaret and partner parks — via the Awin network
- Affiliate networks including Awin, CJ Affiliate, and Admitad, which administer some of the partnerships above
The part that matters
No company pays us to recommend it, and no commission changes what makes this site. We recommend a tour, a beach, or a restaurant because it's worth your time — full stop. If something isn't good, it doesn't get a glowing write-up just because there's a commission attached. Plenty of the things we tell you to do are free, and plenty of what we tell you to skip would have paid us. That's the whole point of the site.
If we ever can't recommend something honestly, we'd rather lose the commission than lose your trust.
