La Paz begins its night the same way every day: the whole town walks the malecón while the bay turns orange. It's a civic ritual, it's free, and everything else — the mezcalería that would headline Mexico City, jazz nights at a brewery, liter beers on a backpacker rooftop, two floors that dance until 3 — arranges itself around it. This is the Baja capital's grown-up answer to Cabo, and here's how to spend it.
Start Where Everyone Starts — The Malecón at Sunset
The five-kilometer waterfront is the venue. Join the paseo an hour before sunset — families, joggers, sculpture photographers, half the town — and pick your seat for the show:
MACA's second floor owns the classic malecón sunset frame, then shifts into a friendly, non-chaotic club as the light goes — the rare venue that does both halves of the evening well. Happy hour softens the margaritas' price; weekends get crowded in the good way.
Seis Uno Dos, the rooftop at the malecón's south end, runs the same arc at a higher polish: craft cocktails, a resident DJ, fried-fish plates big enough to cancel dinner, and a Friday–Saturday club shift to 3 AM. One structural note from the review record: dinner tables can be reclaimed for bottle-service parties late — eat early or expect to migrate.
Captain's Sunset Bar at Marina Palmira, ten minutes toward Pichilingue, is the expat-and-sailor alternative: open-air over the masts, live music rotations, sports on request, and food passed over from the restaurant next door. The quiet-night option.

The Main Event — Mezcalería La Miserable
La Miserable is the best bar in Baja California Sur and it isn't a close race: a deep Oaxacan mezcal library poured by staff who build flights around your palate, house stout on tap, chicharrones on the bar, and a room that hums without shouting. People leave with bottles and return trips planned. It anchors the Belisario Domínguez corridor that has quietly become the town's real nightlife street.
Mr. Playas' move: Sit at the bar, name what you usually drink, and let them pour a three-mezcal flight. Budget two hours; it always becomes two hours.
The Centro Grid — Cocktails, Jazz, and Craft
Elbuen Bar is the cocktail room: house ginger beer for the mules, an old fashioned regulars call their best anywhere, custom builds off a conversation, eclectic dive-bar decor, and a resident dog. Small; go early or midweek.
Bermejo Casa Cervecera runs thirteen taps of its own beer, a kitchen above brewery grade (the smash burger and tuna toast lead), and live jazz nights that make it the most civilized room in town. A 4.9 rating at a brewery is not an accident.
Black Marlin Brewing pours the town's best IPA in a taproom that shares a wall with a poke shop — order next door and they pass the bowl over the bar. Owner-run, expanding, closes at 9:30; the daytime-into-evening beer stop.
El Parnazo is the everyman institution: liter draft beers around 80 pesos, micheladas, burgers that overdeliver, music videos on the screens, and a roof deck. Where the night goes when the budget matters and the company matters more.

How to Choose
