Golf in Los Cabos: Why It Is One of the Best Golf Destinations in the World

Mr. Playas March 2026 7 min read

Los Cabos has more than twenty golf courses designed by some of the most recognized architects in the sport, several of them with holes that have the Sea of Cortez as a direct backdrop. It is no coincidence that specialized international magazines consistently rank it among the best golf destinations in the world.

This guide is for golfers visiting Los Cabos who want to know which courses are worth the green fee, when to play to avoid the heat, and how to organize golf within a trip that also includes beach and food.

Why Los Cabos Is a World-Class Golf Destination

The combination of factors that make Los Cabos exceptional for golf is not easily replicated: dry weather most of the year with more than 350 days of sunshine, Baja California desert landscape contrasting with the blue of the Sea of Cortez, and the investment of developers who brought names like Jack Nicklaus, Tom Weiskopf, Robert Trent Jones Jr., and Tiger Woods to design courses at the destination.

The courses have impeccable conditions for the most part because the dry climate facilitates maintaining high-quality greens. The absence of humidity that characterizes other Mexican beach destinations makes playing 18 holes physically more tolerable, especially during peak season months.

Cabo del Sol — The Course with Mexico's Most Photographed Hole

Cabo del Sol has two courses: the Ocean Course and the Desert Course. The Ocean Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, has three finishing holes directly on the Sea of Cortez that are among the most photographed and recognized in Latin America.

Hole 17 in particular is one of those holes that appears on lists of the most beautiful in the world. The combination of cliff, turquoise water, and required precision makes it one of those golf moments that justifies the trip.

The green fee at Cabo del Sol is among the highest in Los Cabos, which places it in the category of special experience rather than a course to play every day. If you go to Los Cabos once and you play golf, Cabo del Sol should be on the itinerary.

Quivira Golf Club — The Newest and One of the Most Spectacular

Designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened relatively recently on the Los Cabos course timeline, Quivira is perched on the cliffs above the Pacific with views that literally compete with any coastal course in the world.

The design takes advantage of the natural terrain topography more dramatically than most Corridor courses. There are holes where the tee is on a cliff and the fairway disappears into the horizon over the ocean. That is not something you forget.

The difficulty level is real: the Pacific wind significantly affects shots on several holes and the design punishes mistakes. It is not a course for the golfer looking for an easy score, but it is a course for the one looking for a memorable experience.

When to Play and How to Beat the Heat

November through April are the ideal months for golf in Los Cabos: temperatures between 68 and 82°F during the day, no rain, with pleasant breeze on most coastal courses.

May through October has significant heat, especially July through September. If you play during those months, the only comfortable option is a sunrise tee time, between 6 and 7 AM, before the sun reaches its peak.

Courses have cart service with canopy and beverages available on every hole during peak season. Hydration is non-negotiable in the Baja California Sur climate; drink water on every hole regardless of whether you feel thirsty at that moment.

Prices and How to Get the Best Rates

Green fees in Los Cabos range from $100 USD at municipal or lower-profile courses to $350–500 USD at signature courses like Cabo del Sol Ocean or Quivira.

Resorts with their own golf course generally include rounds in their accommodation packages, which can make the room rate seem high but the total cost of golf plus accommodation comparable or lower than staying cheap and paying full green fees.

Many courses offer twilight rates to play from 2 or 3 PM onward at reduced prices. If the heat is not a problem and the score matters less than the price, twilight rates are the best value-to-experience ratio available.

Book in advance during peak season, especially for popular courses on weekends. The best tee times sell out weeks ahead in January and February.

    To wrap up

Los Cabos has world-class golf in a setting that few regions on the planet can match. If golf is part of your trip, this guide gives you what you need to play it well. If golf was not part of the plan and you read this far, consider adding a round to the itinerary.
