Best Restaurants in San Carlos, Sonora
Nine restaurants. Real Google ratings. Fresh seafood from the Sea of Cortez, Sonoran carne asada, and a fishing village palapa that will ruin every other seafood restaurant for you.
Sonoran cuisine you cannot miss
San Carlos is not just spectacular beaches — its food scene is reason enough to visit. Sonoran cuisine shines with Sea of Cortez seafood: shrimp, octopus, red snapper, callo de hacha (pen shell), and the incomparable caldo de camarón (shrimp broth). Sonoran carne asada with flour tortilla sobaquera is another essential. Restaurants overlooking Marina San Carlos or Cerro Tetakawi make every meal memorable.
Seafood Doña Rosita
"The dirt road to La Manga already tells you something special is coming. Doña Rosita isn't a restaurant to impress — it's a restaurant to remember. The grilled octopus is on another level and the Sea of Cortez view, with pelicans overhead, is priceless."
7 km from central San Carlos, in the picturesque fishing village of La Manga, this seafood spot is an institution. Fish arrives fresh daily, prepared with time-tested recipes. More than one visitor who came "just to try it" returned three times in the same week.
Located in the beautiful La Manga fishing town, this restaurant is one of the best seafood experiences anywhere. Everything is fresh and prepared to order. Have been 5 times and will be back soon!
Outstanding seafood! So good we came back a second time in 3 days. Do try the Grilled Octopus — out of this world.
Seafood Los Arbolitos de Cajeme
"If you want seafood with ocean views, no dirt-road adventure, and an extensive menu, Los Arbolitos is your answer. The seafood tower for sharing is spectacular for groups."
One of the most popular restaurants in San Carlos for its value and prime location. Service varies, but the seafood freshness rarely disappoints. Great for families and large groups.
From start to finish, this was an outstanding dining experience. The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly prepared with attention to detail.
Great seafood tower and great service. The staff was very attentive and patient!
Altamarea Cocina del Mundo
"Este es el lugar al que llevas a alguien para impresionar. Italian cuisine auténtica con mariscos del Cortés, con vista a los yates de Marina Real. La paella del miércoles y las pastas son para ponerse de pie."
4.7 stars on Google with 144 enthusiastic reviews — Altamarea is San Carlos' best-kept secret. The chef has Michelin-level training. The charred octopus, spaghetti Nerano, and ribeye are a statement of intent. Closed Tuesdays.
The service here is spectacular. I've been going to San Carlos for over 20 years and consider this to be the best of the best of the dining scene.
Delicious! It was a special tasting event. Michelin star quality! Had a very good experience!
Restaurante Casa Manolo
"Casa Manolo is for those who know food. The Wednesday paella — with complimentary sangría — is perhaps the single best dish in all of San Carlos. Paella with mussels, octopus, shrimp, and perfectly cooked rice, facing the marina."
The highest-rated restaurant in this entire guide at an impressive 4.8 on Google. Mediterranean menu with Spanish influence. Service can be slow — they take their time — so don't come in a rush. Curated wine list. Free parking.
We came in for the Wednesday Paella and Sangria special. The paella was loaded with claws, mussels, fish, shrimp, pulpo, and perfect rice. We will be back!
In my opinion the best food in San Carlos. Good tapas, meat, and paella. The parking is free — a bonus in the marina area.
Embarcadero Cocina + Bar
"Embarcadero is the Marinaterra Hotel restaurant. The mixed grill for two at around 655 pesos is one of the best deals on the marina. The breakfast buffet also deserves mention."
With 996 Google reviews, Embarcadero is one of the most frequented restaurants in San Carlos. The breakfast buffet — chilaquiles, omelettes, fruit, and more — is an institution. Opens at 6 AM, perfect before fishing or kayaking.
Wonderful date night where we shared the mixed grill for 2. All for 655 pesos! The views of the marina and Tetakawi mountain are stunning.
We have been coming here for the breakfast buffet for many years. The food was delicious and plenty to choose from.
La Catrina Restaurante & Galería
"La Catrina is the kind of place San Carlos needed: serious Mexican cuisine with character, in a space filled with local art for sale. The coconut shrimp and enmoladas are worthy of a city restaurant."
Family-friendly y auténtico, con un concepto que mezcla galería de arte y restaurante. La cocina de Jorge —el dueño— tiene alma sonorense. El buffet de desayuno de sábados y domingos a 250 MXN es extraordinario.
Best meal in San Carlos! Had the Enmoladas and Coconut Shrimp, topped with a delicious cake the chef just whipped up. Really cannot give enough stars!
Great family owned restaurant, the best we've had in San Carlos. We came twice during our stay. ALL of the plates were delicious!
Sunset Bar & Grill
"If you want to watch San Carlos' most famous sunset with a sangría in hand, this is the address. Book a table ahead because when the sun goes down, everyone wants to be here."
Facing Los Algodones bay, Sunset has the best view of the famous sunset recognized by National Geographic. Live music on weekends. Over 1,190 Google reviews.
The Sonoran margarita was amazing. And the ribs were perfectly cooked and tasted like pig candy. The live music was fabulous!
The place offers an amazing view of the bay and creates a very pleasant atmosphere overall. A must for sunset in San Carlos.
Restaurante Bar Blackie's
"Blackie's is living history in San Carlos. Over two decades serving locals, American retirees, and tourists. The Petit Châteaubriand prepared tableside by Armando, the owner, with flambé included, is both a show and a dish."
An old-school steakhouse with over 20 years of history. Armando, the owner, personally attends guests and prepares his famous tableside flambés. Ideal for a romantic dinner or group celebration.
We both ordered the petit chateaubriand — seriously the best steak I've had in years. Armando prepared it tableside and it was cooked to perfection.
We love this old-school steakhouse. The owner, Armando, is a gem — friendly, funny, and helpful.
Maukaa Restaurant & Beach Club
"Maukaa is the most 'Instagram' spot in San Carlos, and that's not an insult. Pool facing the sea, swings at the bar, live DJ on weekends, and surprisingly good sushi. Fridays and Saturdays open until 3 AM."
San Carlos' most modern concept: beach club, restaurant, and nightlife all in one. The sushi is genuinely good. For groups, young couples, and anyone who wants more than just a meal.
We had sushi — the best I've had since leaving New Zealand! Amazing view and tasty food, good service from everyone.
They close till 3AM — I wasn't expecting that! Great time, great music with DJ on the spot. Beer was cold and service was great.
